No More Auto Pilot

I was driving down the road and at the last minute I realized that I wanted to get into the left lane to go straight instead of doing my normal by staying in the right lane to bear right. I had to quickly turn off the auto pilot responders and I proceeded forward. I watched the traffic pattern and wondered if it was my time to go. I looked up towards the stop light. Problem was that I couldn’t see my stop light from where I was positioned. I moved too far forward and stopped my car past the light.

As I backed the car up to the stop light, I was reminded of these things:

Auto pilot may not get you to your destination. Often times, we get so used to doing things in a certain way and we do those same things over and over. Because we get so comfortable with a thing, we often allow the subconscious to take control and we move without any thought or effort. Be careful living in this place. God’s way are higher than our ways and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Just because something is comfortable and familiar to us does not mean that it’s the thing for us in this season of life. Change is inevitable. Get off of auto pilot and stay ready to embrace the shift.

Don’t move too fast and get ahead of God. Sometimes, we start moving in our new direction and we lose sight of the direction towards which God is leading you. Don’t forget that he is the light upon your feet and lamp unto your path. Allow Him to lead and guide your footsteps. Don’t get too far ahead of him. If you do, you may very well miss the moment and your trajectory. Imagine if I would not have been able to back up to see the light to tell me how to proceed. A tragic accident could have ensued. Slow down and listen to His still small voice.

Stay vigilant when detours come your way. Trials and temptations are sure to come but how you deal with them can make a huge difference. If you don’t expect them, they can catch you off guard and cause you to lose your footing. Detours can shake you to your core. Oh but… When you stay awake and alert to the things going on around you and in you, you will be equipped to handle anything that comes your way. Although the devil comes to to kill, steal, and destroy, God came to give you an abundant life. Staying vigilant allows God to work the way he wants to on your behalf.

A Small Tear

I could barely see.  My eyes felt itchy and irritated.  I thought I was tired from a full day of work. Sitting at a computer. Taking meetings with clients. Staff meetings. All the work of a typical Friday. But the day was not over. I still had an hour left in my two and a half hour drive down the two-lane, tree surrounded road to Tallahassee.  I was rubbing my eyes and blinking so much to stop the itch. Nothing was working. Nothing was soothing me.  I drove in discomfort as long as I could......then I reached my breaking point.  When I arrived at a stopping point in my travels, I removed my contact lenses. Before I replaced the contacts with glasses, I took a look at the lenses.  If only I would have recognized the signs sooner.... The left lens had a tear.  Side note: The thing I have yet to grasp is how a contact lens that is inside the eye gets a tear without even being touched. If you can explain how this happens, feel free to drop the knowledge i
