No Coincidences

It was not a coincidence that you passed that test. You know the test. The one you didn’t spend any time studying for. Instead of taking out your books on the weekend before your exam, you decided to spend your time hanging out with friends, watching a movie, and just chilling.

It was not a coincidence that you were offered the job that you were not qualified for. You saw the job in the paper or someone mentioned to you that there was an opening, so you applied. When you read the description, you knew that you were missing some of the required years of experience or areas of expertise. Yet, there was something inside of you probing you to apply.

It was not a coincidence that your significant other asked you out on a date or accepted an offer from you. They knew the perfect moment to grab your attention, the perfect time to make their move. They knew just the right things to say to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Whether it was one of these moments or not, there was most certainly that moment when something happened in your life that was amazing and completely out of your control. The moment when you received an answer or response that you didn’t expect. What was that moment for you?

It was not a coincidence that your life has taken the shape it has taken. God planned every moment of your life before you were even born. For Isaiah 49:1 tells us “…Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.”

When is the last time you stopped to thank you for hand picking you? When is the last time you thanked God for developing your talents, skills, and gifts? When is the last time you thanked God for the many blessings that have been poured over and into you?

I challenge you today to take a moment, or as many as it takes, to celebrate the awesome God that we serve. Take time to celebrate the God who created you in His perfect image. Take time to thank Him for loving you and keeping a hedge of protection around you.

Please share with us: what is one thing you will thank God for?

Don't Harbor Unforgiveness

“ His mother left him and his father turned his back on him .” These words struck me like a bolt of lightening. They were words spoken directly to me. They depict a part of my life that I failed to acknowledge. A part of my life that I suppressed. A part of my life that I chose to ignore. Failure to acknowledge. Suppression. Ignoring. None of these things cause the past to flee. These things do not cause the past to change. Nor do they allow for full ability to walk into true purpose and authority. This is not an isolated story. With a human service and child welfare background, I know firsthand that this story is one in a million. But we also see it every day. If you're like me, you sometimes find your escape in movies and television series. Instead of spending time in your own realities, you spend time watching scripted realities. It's an opportunity to disengage ourselves from the characters on the screen. It's a way to passively accept or criticize the s
